Hiding on the hills above Torren Lochan in Clachaig Gully, this stunning Scottish landscape was used as a shooting location for the Prisoner of Azkaban, Order of the Phoenix and Half Blood Prince.

While unfortunately the hut is no longer there today, the location is very easily accessible and absolutely worth hiking to for every die-hard Potter fanatic.

Where is Hagrid’s Hut in real life?

The Hagrid’s Hut filming location is situated between Glencoe village and Clachaig Inn, hiding on the hills nearby the Red Squirrel Campsite

Easily reachable by car, Glencoe is also accessible from Fort William where you can simply take a 30-minute local bus or taxi.

From Glencoe, Hagrid’s Hut is around a 40-minute scenic ramble through the surrounding woodland which certainly feels very ‘Forbidden Forest-esque’. Simply take the path south-east from the centre of the village.

Nestled up above on the craggy landscape, you’d easily miss the spot since there are no signposts and you can’t see it from the road below.

Look out for the ‘Red Squirrel Campsite’ to your right during the ramble, since the Harry Potter filming location is hiding on the hills to your left shortly after.

Continue walking past the lake immediately after the campsite and take the trail up the hillside to your left.

Harry Potter fans will instantly recognise the backdrop once they arrive!

Coming in at just 2 miles in length and mostly flat throughout (bar the final short uphill climb), this walk is suitable for pretty much anyone and everyone. Just take care when ascending the rocky hillside trail.

For those coming from Clachaig Inn – exit the Inn, immediately take a left and walk up the country road. You’ll reach the Hagrid’s Hut location in around 6 minutes.

When hiking from this direction, the hillside trail will be found to your right shortly before reaching the Red Squirrel Campsite. Easy peasy!

Is Hagrid’s Hut still in Glencoe?

Unfortunately, Hagrid’s Hut has long been removed and the landscape has now returned to its natural state.

Nevertheless, while the Harry Potter crew were careful to leave behind no remnants of the filming which took place in this remote corner of the Scottish Highlands, there is still a lingering magical aura which fills the air when visiting in the flesh.

I can attest to this first-hand.

Staring out at the same enchanted scenery seen in the movies, an overwhelming sense of nostalgia took over me during our visit – taking me back to younger years when I watched the films for the very first time. Proper goosebump material!

Glencoe is certainly no stranger when it comes to film crews taking advantage of its stunning backdrop.

Other iconic films that were shot here include Highlander, Monty Python and more recently, James Bond Skyfall.

Just a 10-minute drive from Hagrid’s Hut, you can drive on Glen Etive; also known as the ‘James Bond Road’, which was used for a pivotal scene in Skyfall.
